I love sports to death, and by this point, the tally of things I've written about them is somewhere in the thousands. Here are some of my recurring features:
• The Dugout, an ongoing series of chat room conversations between baseball personalities. I co-founded this back in 2004 with my Progressive Boink pals Brandon Stroud and Nick Dallamora. These days, Brandon writes the majority of them.
• A monthly round-up of and commentary on the best animated sports GIFs.
• Sports Cards For Insane People. A look back at the ugliest, strangest, and worst sets in sports card history.
• A series of reports, videos, and diagrams of fans who interrupt games by running on the field.
• Football Guys. The official unofficial chat room of the NFL.
And here are some of the one-off features I've written that I'm proudest of:
• The Mike Sweeney Story (written in 2004). A retrospective of an alternate history in which Mike Sweeney hit 83 home runs in a single season. I've received dozens of emails from people who thought it was real. WHOOPS
• Barry Bonds Enters The World Of Myst (2004). This is basically just the goofiest damn thing.
• Dennis "Oil Can" Boyd: The Twentieth Century's Ambassador To Modern Man (2004). This is also real goofy. Disclaimer: when I wrote this, I was an immature 21 years old, and I thought it was cool to use the word "retard" for comedic effect. (Hint: it is not.)
• Julio Franco: A History In Pixels (2006). A tribute to Franco, using baseball video games that were released during his career.
• The 2011 NFL Lockout: When America Descended Into Madness (2010). A harrowing look at what ended up not being the future.
• Your Worthless No-Count Friend Texts You Updates from Historically Significant Baseball Games (2011). A guest post at Baseball Prospectus.
• What Would Basketball Be Like If Multiple Basketballs Were On The Court At The Same Time? (2011) Super-stupid.
• Complete And Thorough Incompetence (2011). A piece exploring the nuances of pick-up basketball and the terrible people who play it. I later expanded this into an ongoing series.
The Baseball Player Name Hall Of Fame (2011). Where Cannonball Titcomb shall never die.
• Home Field Advantage In Sports (2011). Research into how much it actually matters.
